Jason Gruner

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. - Jason Gruner, age 46, passed away on February 4, 2020. Born to Kathleen (DePinho) Gruner and Christopher Gruner, Jason was raised in Naugatuck, CT, in a large, loving family, and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. Jason loved helping others and was a true friend to people of every age throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing with his grandpa, all types of sports, and spending time with family. He was a natural athlete who excelled at almost anything he tried, and was proud to have been named Most Valuable Player of a national championship flag football team and, more recently, to compete in Mixed Martial Arts.

Jason lived in Bonita Springs, Florida for over a decade, where he started his beautiful family. Over the years Jay worked as a plumber; construction manager; a land surveyor; and a condominium maintenance manager. His excellent math skills and fluency in Spanish and Portuguese helped him quickly assess and translate clients’ needs and execute their plans. Jason had an amazing intellect and a deep passion for knowledge. His near-photographic memory kept so many happy reminiscences always close in his thoughts and his heart. He loved his family and friends intensely.

Jason is predeceased by his beloved grandfather and fishing buddy, Aurelio Norton DePinho; his paternal grandparents, William and Genevieve Gruner; his uncle, Bill Gruner; and by several close friends.

Jason is survived by his two wonderful children, son, Joseph and daughter, Adriana; and by their mother, Anita Mattei, and her beloved family. He leaves his loving parents, Kathleen (DePinho) Gruner, Chistopher Gruner and wife, Jeanne; his wonderful and nurturing grandmother, Arminda DePinho; brother, Bradley Gruner and sister, Shelby (Gruner) Maloney; sister-in-law, Tami Nurkin; nephews, Aiden Gruner and Michael Maloney; niece, Alannah Gruner; and so many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services to honor and celebrate Jason’s life will take place in the ensuing months. We ask his many friends and relatives to reflect on his life and the memories they shared with him.

We were so blessed to have a person like Jason in our lives. As a nephew, cousin and godfather, he touched our lives in many beautiful ways. We will always remember him and miss him dearly. He was a kind person and always the first person to help someone in need.

When Charlie and I were little, he would goof around with us and let us climb on him. He taught us how to count how far away the lightning was and was always sharing his knowledge with us. He took us mini golfing and fishing in Florida and we will never forget the good times we had with him.

Thank you, Jason for being a part of our lives and we love and miss you dearly.

Love Madeleine, Charlie, Aunt Mary and Uncle Ron

Jason had presence. When he walked into a room, he was like a magnet for people. You wanted to know him. You wanted to hang out with him. He was charming and charismatic and brilliant.
I miss him dearly.
Forever in our hearts...
