Phyllis Marie Brogis
Phyllis M. Brogis
Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother
Phyllis M. Brogis, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Hartford Hospital where she was surrounded and comforted by her family. She was the beloved wife of Joseph R. Brogis. Born on December 4, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the dedicated daughter of the late Anthony and Filomena (Lonczak) Pastular.
Mrs. Brogis graduated from Torrington High School in 1968 after moving from New York to Connecticut in 1966. She worked at Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford, CT as an actuary before taking a break from the workplace to raise her two daughters, Lynn and Joann. When she resumed working, she was employed in the administration field by Colonial Data Technologies Corp. in New Milford, CT and later at the Visiting Nurse Association in Watertown, CT. While raising her family, Mrs. Brogis volunteered as a teacher’s assistant in the Litchfield Public School System and as a CCD teacher for the third grade at Our Lady of Grace in Bantam, CT.
A longtime resident of Bantam, she was a selfless wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, including her four-legged babies. While able, she enjoyed tending her beautiful flower gardens and was a talented seamstress who was always willing to darn socks, tuck waistlines, or fix hems for her entire family. She also traveled the world on numerous cruises with her husband and in-laws.
Mrs. Brogis will be forever loved by her family. She is survived by her husband and best friend Joe of Bantam; daughter Lynn Brogis-Niemetz and her husband Tony of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter Joann Healy and her husband Jack of Litchfield, CT; and the apple of her eye, her granddaughter Brooke Baldwin-Healy of Litchfield, CT. She also leaves her sister Elaine Makowski and her husband Stanley; her sister Florence Albrycht and her husband Ron; her brother in-law Roger Brogis and his wife Joanne; her brother in-law Brian Brogis and his wife June; her brother in-law Jeffrey Brogis; her father-in-law Joseph C. Brogis; as well as several nephews, nieces and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua in Litchfield, CT. The burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Bantam, CT. Relatives and friends may visit with Mrs. Brogis’ family on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
