Aldo  Casadei
Aldo Casadei, 90, died peacefully on October 12, 2016 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary Sullivan Casadei, and they had lived together in Litchfield for over 55 years until her death in 2011. Aldo was born on June 23, 1926, to Raffaele and Egle Simoncelli Casadei. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Aldo played baseball for several minor league teams. He was married in 1955, raised five children and worked as a plumber for over 40 years. Aldo was a volunteer fireman and Little League baseball coach. After his retirement, he and Mary spent many happy summers in the village of Murreigh on the Dingle peninsula in Ireland. He loved horse racing and was an avid fan of Boston sports teams.

Aldo is survived by his children, Elisabeth Domonell and husband Bill of Goshen, Matthew Casadei of Litchfield, Marita Ray of New Hartford, Gerard Casadei and wife Ann of Bethel. He was beloved “Poppy” to his grandchildren, Jared (and Hana), Eric (and Lauren), Ceili, Liam, Danielle, Gianni and Jeremy, and his great-grandson Bodhi. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son Aldo, brothers Nino, Tony and Geno, and sister Augusta Burns.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. Friends and family may call prior to mass from 9:00-10:30am at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Litchfield Fire Department, American Legion Post 27 or Tri-Town Little League.
