Barbara McCullough Kracht, 88, formerly of Chappaqua,NY, passed away suddenly but peacefully on August 19, 2016, in Litchfield, CT. Born on July 5, 1928 to Harry H. Smith and Euphemia Bentley Hawley, Barbara grew up in Maplewood,NJ, and received her Bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Rochester. Married in 1951, her spouse of 59 years, Alvin R. Kracht, predeceased her in 2011. Surviving her are her three children: Karin Kracht of Bloomington, MN, Geoff (Dana) Kracht of Millwood, NY, and Howard (Francesca) Kracht of Litchfield,CT; her brother, Gordon (Ruth) Smith of Cold Spring, KY; her sister-in-law Kathleen Gregory; five grandchildren, Peter, Olivia, Russell, Elizabeth and Carsten Kracht, and seven nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macula Vision Research Foundation (www.mvrf.org).
