Obituary for Diane Damerau

Goshen- Diane (Deci) Damerau age 82 passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2015. She was the devoted wife of the late Frederick J. Damerau.

Born and raised in Palmyra, NY, daughter of Theodore and Florence (Ashman) Deci. Diane graduated from Cornell University at the age of 20 where she received her B.A. in mathematics, and was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Sorority. Her graduate degree was from Yale University in Linguistics. Diane worked as a High School math teacher before staying home to raise her children. A lifelong musician, she found her passion at the Organ.

Diane lived for 40 years in North Salem, NY, where she was active in town activities and her church. Diane spent her last twelve years in Goshen, CT.

Diane is survived by her son, Carl F. Damerau of Carbondale, CO; her daughter, Elaine (Damerau) Swanson and her husband Todd M. Swanson of Bethlehem, CT; two grandchildren Zachary T. Swanson and his wife Kimberly J. Swanson of Morris, CT; Olivia E. Swanson of Bethlehem, CT; her sister Beverly Young of Hannibal, NY and her brother Eugene Deci of Suttons Bay, MI and many nieces and nephews.

Diane possessed a vast wealth of knowledge in many areas and had a wide variety of interests and talents. She was known for her grace, understanding, compassion and being non-judgmental. Her true pride and joy were her children and grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor Diane will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 22, at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, South Street, Litchfield, CT. Friends and family may call from 4-7pm on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will follow in Goshen Center Cemetery.
