Shirley Mary McCormack, 95, of Middlebury passed away on February 22, 2015 at Cherry Brook in Canton. She was the wife of the late Robert J. McCormack, Jr. She was born on October 21, 1919 to the late Harold Chester and Nellie (Barnum) Bronson.

She graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. Shirley, known as “Grammie” to all was a caregiver to all of her friends and family. Family was the utmost importance to her. Some of her favorite pastimes were knitting, cooking, taking bus trips, and playing bingo at the Litchfield Community Center as well as Morris Senior Center. Willow and McKie, her two favorite pets, held a special place in her heart.

Shirley is survived by two daughters; Shirley M. Gardner and her husband James, of Northfield, Margaret Elwood and her husband Guy, of Ocola, FL, 6 grandchildren; Nancy Dombroski and her husband Kevin, Elizabeth Gardner, Pamela Lounsbury and husband Darren, James Gardner and wife Melissa, Dr. David Elwood and his wife LeAnne, and Peter Elwood and his wife Lucia, 14 great grandchildren; Emily, Hannah, Robbie, Sarah, Jonathan, Meghan, James, Adam, Kailey, Sebastian, Theodore, Phinnaea, Maya and Liam as well as several nieces and nephews.

Shirley’s family would like to thank the staff of Cherry Brook for creating a home away from home for her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 715 Bantam Road, Bantam, CT 06750. Friends and family may call prior to mass from 9:30-10:30am at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759. Burial will be private.
