Edith Marion (Hockey) Waterhouse

Fulfilling a personal request Edith passed away on November 17, 2014 in the same family farmhouse in which she was born on October 23, 1922.

A member of one of the last classes to graduate from the two room schoolhouse in the village of Northfield, CT she completed her public education through both the Thomaston and Litchfield High Schools.

Following graduation from the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her RN degree she accepted a position as a public nurse in Hartford. One of her first assignments there was to provide medical assistance and triage to victims of the Great Hartford Circus Fire in June of 1944.

Edith advanced her professional training at Yale University’s School of Nurse Anesthesiology earning a CRNA, which led to a forty year career in life saving service at numerous hospitals in Northwestern Connecticut.

Parents Thomas Hockey and Lily (Foy) Hockey of the Channel Island of Guernsey (UK) entered the U.S. through Ellis Island and briefly lived in Brooklyn, NY before moving to Northfield, CT.

Edith married William W. Waterhouse of Waterville, ME in 1948 and raised three sons; Tom, Dick and Harry. She is survived by Tom and wife Elyse of Northfield, Richard and wife Janet of Higganum, CT and Harry (Predeceased) and wife Ellen of Northfield. Also surviving are granddaughters; Laurel Amelia and Amye Valentine both of Manhattan.

Visiting hours will be from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. A memorial service will begin at 11:00am.
