Wife, Mother, Homemaker, Gardener

GOSHEN – Esther “Ronnie” (Rempel) Lockwood, 89, passed away September, 9th, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends. She is survived by her three sons, Roy, Tom, Ted, her daughter, Patti and her sister Betty Kappus. She died at home peacefully after surviving cancer for many years.

Ronnie was born January, 27th 1925 in New York City, to German parents. They soon moved to Fairfield Connecticut, where she grew up and then went to nursing school, and became a registered nurse. After World War II she was at a square dance where she meet Eugene (Gene) Lockwood. Soon they were married and built their first home in Weston, Connecticut.

Thirty-five years ago, Weston began to lose its rural atmosphere and Ronnie and Gene moved to Goshen. There, while first living in a trailer, then a shed, together they hand built a new home complete with a fireplace from stones gathered from their property. Many residents of Goshen and the surrounding area have not only enjoyed the panoramic view of Tyler Lake from their home but the welcoming and friendly hospitality that was always present. Sadly, Gene passed away last November.

In her early years, Ronnie spent some time as a visiting nurse, but focused on providing a wonderful home for her husband and children. Healthy, wholesome and good tasting food was always on the table. A lot of the food she served was grown in their own garden. When she moved to Goshen, she enthusiastically worked with the Garden Club and up to the last week, her home was filled with many Goshen Club Members, enjoying the comradery. She will be missed.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 7 Bolton Hill Road, Cornwall, CT 06753 followed by burial in the Goshen Cemetery. The family feels that Ronnie would be pleased if those of you attending, brought a few flowers from your garden or wildflowers to the church and then to the cemetery.

Anyone wishing to make donations, may do so in Ronnie's name, to: Visiting Nurses, VNA northwest 607 Bantam Road, Unit F, Bantam, Ct. 06750. Ronnie was very grateful for the support they provided her.
