Obituary for Barbara J. Stafford (Beyer)

Barbara Jane Stafford, New Hartford, 88, passed away on November 28, 2016 after a short stay at Valerie Manor. She was born on June 26, 1928.

She grew up in Torrington attending the local schools. However, summers were spent living at Bantam Lake with her Mom, Dad and six siblings. The cottage on Bantam became a gathering place for the entire family as the siblings became adults and had their own families. Barbara held onto the love of the lake her entire life – in the last few years enjoying a car ride to view the water.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, William Stafford. They had been dmarried over 50 years, living in the house they built in Bakersville the entire time.

Barbara and Bill had four children. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Steeves and husband John of New Hartford, and two sons, Gary Stafford and wife Maria of Morris, and Mark Stafford and wife Debora of Torrington. She was predeceased by their daughter, Heidi, who was born in 1971 and had a short life of a few days.

Barbara was known as Nanny to her four grandchildren, Aron Steeves, Brett Steeves, Alexander Stafford, and Chelsea Stafford. She also had the joy of having eight great grandchildren.

Barbara was employed at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for many years as a medical transcriptionist before she retired. Music filled her life as she served as organist and choir director at the Bakersville Methodist Church and then joined the choir at First United Methodist Church in Torrington. She also was a member of Sweet Adelines, a woman's barbershop singing group. Barbara and Bill loved camping and traveled extensively up and down the east coast – towing their home behind them.
