Elaine M. (Croft) Smith, 90, of Morris, Ct and formerly Framingham, MA died peacefully at the Candlewood Valley Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 3rd.
She was the daughter of the late Gordon S. Croft and Maude (Scharette) Croft and husband of the late Arthur A. Smith, also of Framingham. She was the beloved ‘Nana’ of grandchildren Kelly and Sammi Hill and Brandon and Alaina Smith. A 1943 graduate of Framingham High School and a 1946 graduate of South Middlesex Secretarial School, she was the first woman hired at the new General Motors Assembly Plant under construction in Framingham. She later worked for Raytheon labs of Sudbury and the Shagory Law Firm in Framingham.

She was a lifelong resident of Framingham and a member of the Framingham Garden club where she was President from 1995-1997 and co-president from 1999-2001.

In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her daughter Kathy Ann Hill and her husband Christopher Hill of Morris, CT and son Charles A. Smith and his wife Susan A. VanDenBurg Smith of Dallas, TX

As a devoted gardener, she dearly loved flowers; however, the family strongly desires charitable contributions in lieu of to the Framingham Heart Study, 73 Mt. Wayte Avenue, Suite 2, Framingham, MA 01702-5827 and New Milford VNA Hospice, 68 Park Lane Rd, New Milford, CT 06776.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. Calling hours will be held prior to the mass from 9:00 – 10:30am at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
