Rosemary H. Hoben, 97, passed away on June 30, 2014 at Noble Horizons in Salisbury, CT. She was the wife of the late Thomas B. Hoben. She was born on October 4, 1916 in Worcester, MA to the late Michael and Rose (Flynn) O’Reilly.


Rosemary is a woman who was a generous giver and a person who loved to laugh, welcoming others openly. Rosemary has touched generations of children over 40 years as the proprietor of Little Brick School, and before that her Mother Goose school in Worchester, Mass. She was a pioneer in early education, including disabled and disenfranchised children into her nursery school long before it became federal law. Outside of her school, Rosemary was a creative problem solver, an activist, an organizer and contributor who found ways to help make the lives of others better.

She was a member of St. Anthony Parish and the Daughter’s of Isabella. She was a Litchfield aid for the Junior Republic, as well as a member of the Board of Litchfield’s V.N.A and the Women’s Forum.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas, daughter Sara, and brothers; Paul and Francis. She is survived by her sons; Thomas Jr. and Paul, Grandchildren; Elliot and Sara and great grandchildren; Cody, Kyla, and Shaelyn.

Rosemary’s life will be celebrated at a mass of Christian burial on Thursday July 3, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield, CT. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 4-7pm at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT.
