Obituary for William Norman Aldrich

William “Bill” N. Aldrich, Sr.
Torrington

William N. Aldrich, Sr., age 86, passed away on November 24, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Vivian A. (Morrell) Aldrich. Bill was born on November 29, 1933 in Putnam, CT to the late Charles W. Aldrich and Eva (Lemoreux) Aldrich.

He was raised in Putnam where he attended Israel Putnam School. He had worked in a variety of occupa-tions including mink farming, manufacturing and Healthcare, retiring at the age of 77.
Bill was a very dedicated husband and father who devoted his life to the well-being of his family.
Hardworking doesn’t begin to describe the sacrifices that he has made. Despite his hard work he always had time to be available to his family and to enjoy their love and companionship as much as they enjoyed his. He was a kind and compassionate man who was willing to help anyone who needed it. He was a witty guy with a dry and quirky sense of humor that was neither mean nor inappropriate. Even when he didn’t feel well he would still say something funny, make a weird face or sing a silly song. He lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed traditions such as sitting on the floor under the tree on Christmas morning to pass out the presents. Although the kids would prefer to be up at the crack of dawn to rip everything open before he was out of bed, he would not give in and miss their eager and joyful faces as he handed them the gifts. This was a tradition that continued long after it was easy to get up from the floor. He enjoyed his nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren just as much as his own kids.
Although we are all heartbroken over his tragic loss, we wouldn’t trade anything for the love and joy that he has given to so many of us.
In addition to his wife Vivian, Bill is survived by three sons; William N. Aldrich, Jr. of Torrington, Calvin W. Aldrich of Torrington and Norman B. Aldrich and wife Ana of Beacon Falls, a daughter, Valerie A. Aldrich, of Torrington, a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Sekulski of Torrington, 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by a son Ronald E. Aldrich, a grandson Wesley C. Aldrich and a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Baker.
