Litchfield– Thomas Michael Condon, 71, of Litchfield, formerly of Winchester Center passed away at home on September 18, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Linda (Griffin), three daughters, Elizabeth Ali Seaberry and her husband Dyan Ali of Portland, Oregon; Kate Condon of Litchfield, Connecticut and Jenny-Brooke Condon and her husband Shripal Daphtary of Brooklyn, New York; four grandchildren, Aoife and Aliyan Seaberry; Lekha and Kieran Condon-Daphtary; three siblings, brother Dennis and his wife Katherine Condon of Wakefield, Rhode Island, brother William Condon of Torrington, Connecticut, sister Kathy Beech of Santa Rosa, California, and sister-in-law Patricia Halfon of Midlothian, Virginia; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Thom was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Boonton, New Jersey, the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Dolan) Condon. He moved to Connecticut to attend Southern Connecticut State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. He received a Master’s in Human Relations and Community Affairs from American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Thom spent his career working to improve the lives of others and expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities. For more than two decades he worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services. As an Assistant Regional Director, he managed health, therapy and community-based services for persons with intellectual disabilities. He later served as the Northern New Jersey Division Director of Volunteers of America, where he expanded programs providing services to persons returning home after incarceration, and directed programs providing community support and services to justice-involved youth and persons with mental illness. Later, Thom continued his work in Torrington on behalf of person with disabilities as Executive Director of Community Systems, Inc., Connecticut.

Thom was an active contributor to his community. As a teacher and volunteer, he furthered his life-long commitment to education. He served as Chairman of the Winchester Board of Education, was a Trustee of the W.L. Gilbert Trust and a member of the Board of Directors of The Gilbert School Corporation. For more than thirty years, he taught sociology as an adjunct professor at numerous community colleges and at a maximum security prison.

Thom was delighted in nature, reading non-fiction, and playing with his grandchildren. He loved writing poems, camping, UCONN women’s basketball, and celebrating his Catholic faith at the Lourdes Shrine in Litchfield. His patience, generosity, integrity and quiet humility made him a role model to his family, colleagues, students and so many others.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday September 19, at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. A funeral Mass will be held at the Lourdes Shrine, 50 Montfort Road, Litchfield on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.
