Torrington - Rosalie N. Fritch, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. She was the wife of the late Hugh Fritch for 57 years. Rosalie was born on October 5, 1929 in Torrington, CT to the late Arthur C. and Irene Pond Newport. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Elizabeth Newport Pettigrew, after the passing of her mother in 1932.

Rosalie attended local schools and graduated from Torrington High School in 1947. She was trained at the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, where she worked as an RN in the newborn nursery for three years before returning to Torrington.

She followed her husband, Hugh, to Guam for two years where he was serving in the U. S. Navy. Upon her return to Torrington she worked as a private-hire nurse, for several convalescent homes and at the Forman School infirmary in Litchfield.

Rosalie was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church in Torrington and a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and travelling. Her dog Polly brought great joy to her life.

Rosalie is survived by her three sons and their families; Kevin and Lynne of Uncasville, Lawrence and his wife Susan of Old Lyme and William of Harwinton, five grandsons; Travis Gracewski and his wife Jennifer, Seth and his wife Melissa, Justin, Eric and Karl Fritch and three great grandchildren; Bradley, Caroline and Benjamin.
