Obituary for Robert E. Goodwin Jr.

LITCHFIELD – Robert E. Goodwin, Jr., 78, husband of 51 years to Patricia (Mougenot) Goodwin, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Torrington on March 8, 1941, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Evelyn (Naser) Goodwin. Bob grew up in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School, Class of 1959 and went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He worked as an engineer at Pratt and Whitney for over 40 years and was a longtime member and deacon of Evangelical Baptist Church.

Earlier in life Bob was an avid water skier and outstanding athlete playing basketball and baseball in high school and college. Along with his teammates he helped the Litchfield Cowboys win the state basketball championship in 1959. With his love of sports, he coached youth basketball and baseball in town for many years. He enjoyed working on the family farm, "doing chores," taking care of his cows and gardens, putting in hay, and hunting with his coon dogs. Later in life he enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, spending time with his family, often at his cottage on Tyler Lake during the summer, and following the New York Yankees. Bob loved his family fiercely and, above all, was a man of faith, resting in his salvation through the grace of Jesus Christ.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Goodwin, and Christopher Goodwin and wife, Bethany; two daughters, Suzanne Beach and husband, Jason, and Barbara Beebe and husband, Scott; 16 grandchildren and his aunt, Phyllis Bunnell.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, January 17, 2020, at Evangelical Baptist Church, 7 Winsted Rd., Torrington, CT. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Evangelical Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1231, Torrington, CT 06790 for the Faith Promise Mission Fund.
