Obituary for Richard E. Williams

BANTAM -Richard (Dick) Williams, 77, passed away on May 17, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was born in East Lyme, Connecticut on March 31, 1943 to the late Edward W. Williams and Gertrude (Frisbie, Williams) Clarke. Dick was the "cranky" but loving husband of Donna. When Dick wasn't teasing Donna he could be found yelling at the TV, cheering on the UConn women's Basketball Team or riding around the yard on his John Deere tractor.

Dick was fondly referred to as Bucko and Mr. John Deere to most people around town. He attended Litchfield High School and joined the US Navy in 1962, serving 3 tours in the Vietnam War on the USS Duncan and the Newman K. Perry. He worked for PTC Aerospace for 16 years, Devereux, and the Klingberg Family Center for mentally disabled young adults. Dick met his wife Donna while both were working as CNAs at The Kent. Before retiring, he worked for Connecticut Traffic Control.

Dick was a member of both Morris and Bantam Fire departments and served on the Bantam Zoning Appeals Commission.

He is survived by his wife Donna (Chase) Williams, a daughter Kimberly Ann Williams, two step Daughters; Laura Swett (Mark) and Amy Rothe Wilbur (Kevin), three grandsons; Shane Higgs (fiancé Kaitlin MacDonald), Tyler Higgs and Brett Rothe (girlfriend Heather Hughes), a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews and his loyal companions Rena and Carlee. Dick is predeceased by his son Robert Williams and his stepson Jason Rothe and his best girl “Dog” Sadie.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Krinsky and team for their exceptional professionalism and great care.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bantam Fire and Ambulance, P.O. Box 456, Bantam, Connecticut 06750.
