Obituary for Reto Warrington Morosani

Reto Warrington Morosani, a Litchfield resident, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 5, 2020.

A son of Remy Edmond Morosani and C. Virginia Warrington (Mackoy) Morosani, Reto was born February 5, 1946, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, CT, and was raised with his brothers and sisters at Laurel Ridge, his parents’ farm in Litchfield, CT.

He received his elementary education through the Calvert School, and graduated from St. Mark’s School, Southborough, MA. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Middlebury College, where he cherished his membership in Chi Psi, and served on the Ski Patrol.

He continued studies towards his Masters at New York University’s Courant Institute while working for American Cyanamid as a scientific programmer. One of the mainframe programs Reto wrote measured gas chromatographs. The different colored glow-in-the-dark necklaces or wands are fun benefits of Reto’s programming.

Mathematics was not the only subject Reto continued to study. He practiced meditation daily, and added the Teachings of Lao Tzu in an app to his phone to keep them close at hand.

He “retired” for seven years to Colorado, skied downhill in the morning, x-country in the afternoon, and explored myriad part-time jobs. He was grateful in later years he’d taken this opportunity. He’d lived what many others dream about. In later years, when he traveled again, he aimed for our National Parks (Senior Lifetime Pass) and mountains, and kept a camera close.

He returned to Litchfield in 1978, and resumed programming for many insurance companies in the greater Hartford area, including Aetna, Cigna, and United HealthCare, until he retired again.

Reto was an avid photographer of the natural world most of his life. He sent his far-flung family an annual calendar to remind them of Wigwam Road. He and long-time friend, the late landscape painter Curtis Hanson, enjoyed collaborating on a “Skyscape Series.”

Reto was a member of the Board of Directors of the Litchfield Cemetery Association, and a member of the Litchfield Country Club.

Reto relished his friendships at the Sanctum, whose members were as precious to him as were his Chi Psi brothers. Reto’s schedule centered around Monday night Movies, Wednesday morning discussions, Wednesday afternoon Bridge, and Thursday evening dinners. He served as Vice President of The Sanctum, and made sure firewood and a welcoming smile were in place.

He is survived by his wife, Marana (Polly) Brooks, and his sons Reto Nicholas Morosani (Plano, TX) and Alessandro Brooks Morosani (Litchfield, CT).

Additionally, he is survived by two brothers, George Morosani (Asheville, NC) and John Morosani (Litchfield, CT), a sister, Rosalie (Roopa) Morosani (Emerald Hills, CA), and marvelous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Remy (Cici) Morosani, two sisters, Virginia M. Smith and Francesca M. Thompson, M.D., and a son, Remy B. Morosani.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 20, 2020, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church,
South Street, Litchfield, CT, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in the spring.
