Obituary for Raymond Joseph Augustyn

Goshen - Raymond Joseph Augustyn, 81, passed away on December 15, 2022 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital after lengthy struggles with his health. He was born on June 8, 1941 in New Britain, CT to the late Raymond Peter and Jean Regina Augustyn.

He was raised in New Britain, attended New Britain High School and earned an associate degree from Charter Oak College. Ray proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in August of 1969. He attended the Connecticut State Police Academy, beginning his career in Hartford and over the course of his 20 years, worked in Troop A in Southbury, Troop B in Canaan and Troop L in Litchfield. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant in 1991. Together with his former wife Diane, Ray raised three wonderful children in Cornwall CT.

Ray spent many years post-retirement as a manager at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area, ultimately having the joy of watching his grandchildren get on skis for the very first time and grow their love for the outdoors. Ray was also a member of the Salisbury Rotary Club, Housatonic Youth Service Bureau, HousaTonics Men’s Barbershop Chorus, “The Commissioner” of his social golf league, and a founding member of the Tyler Lake Ski Club. Ray was a dedicated fan of UCONN men and women’s basketball and the Boston Red Sox. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time outdoors playing golf and fishing and boating with his grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his two sons, Eric Augustyn and his wife Terry of Litchfield, CT and Adam Augustyn of Brooklyn, NY, his daughter, Audrey Augustyn of Goshen, CT, four grandchildren; Reide Augustyn of Litchfield, CT, Emily Augustyn of Litchfield, CT, Logan Alford of Goshen, CT and Dylan Alford of Goshen, CT and his loving dog, Agnes of Goshen, CT.

He is predeceased by his parents, his beloved stepmother Eleanor Augustyn of Farmington, CT, his former wife Diane Carpenter of Cornwall, CT, his sister, Lorelei Kubas of Kalamazoo, MI and his daughter-in-law Beth Augustyn of Brooklyn, NY.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, a service will begin at 4:00pm at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
