Marylyn L. Nelson Anderson (83) passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4 at Jewish Senior Services (The Jewish Home) in Bridgeport, CT. She was the wife of the late David F. Anderson.

Born Marylyn Louise Nelson in Mount Vernon, New York on August 18, 1936, she was the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Anderson) Nelson. Marylyn spent her childhood in Flushing, Queens, NY where she attended PS 24 Elementary and graduated from Flushing High School.

Marylyn received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Framingham State College in Massachusetts. During her college summer breaks, she worked at Ledgeland Inn & Cottages in Sugar Hill, New Hampshire. Marylyn also taught sewing classes for the Singer Corporation in Queens, NY.

While student teaching Home Economics at Carle Place High School, Carle Place, Long Island, she met her husband. David and Marylyn were married in August 1959.

She and her family started out in Summit, New Jersey but moved to Litchfield, CT in 1967 to be closer to the summer camp that she and her husband co-owned. Together they ran Camp Wonposet on Bantam Lake in Morris, CT until 1986.

As a valued member of the First Congregational Church of Litchfield, she devoted her time to singing in the church choir, working tirelessly on the annual Fall Festival, and helping “build” the Meetinghouse Preservation Fund while making many lifelong friends.

In addition, Marylyn had interests in gardening, especially flowers, and real estate, obtaining her license in 1972. She also played the piano and enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean.

She is survived by two children; Kristine (Anderson) Crompton of Berlin, VT and David E. Anderson of Fairfield, CT as well as five grandchildren (Kaylyn Crompton, Andrew Crompton, Ian Anderson, Rachel Anderson and Alec Anderson) who will greatly miss her.

Due to COVID-19 there will be a private graveside service in Litchfield. At a later date, a religious service will be held at The First Congregational Church of Litchfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Meetinghouse Preservation Fund c/o the First Congregational Church in Litchfield (P.O. Box 386, Litchfield, CT 06759).

Dear Kristine and David,
My sincerest sympathy regarding the loss of your mom. I had the honor of knowing both of your parents during my teaching days at Wamogo and summer tutoring days at the camp. I enjoyed their company, their words of wisdom they often shared as well as their classic sense of humor.
Best regards,
Carla Sabia Perlotto
