Obituary for Mary Aeschlimann

Mary C. Aeschlimann (Bennett) born Mary C. Beach on April 14, 1928 in Torrington, CT passed away on February 28 at the age of 91. Mary was a long time resident of Bantam, CT. She was fondly known to many as Gramma Bennett.

She spent much of her childhood around animals as an active member of the Grange. Mary graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946. After graduation she worked in the Litchfield First National Bank. She later married the late Roland (Pete) W. Bennett and moved to Bantam where they had four children.

While her children were young, Mary was a Den Mother for several years in the Cub Scouts. Often she could be found with her children ice skating, sledding, bicycling, or playing card games. She loved gardening and was always in the middle of a sewing or knitting project. Mary was very active in St. Paul’s Church of Bantam performing duties as a member of the Altar Guild and Choir.

During her career, Mary also worked at the Bantam School in the cafeteria and later at Bantam Fuel Company.
Mary later married the late Robert Aeschlimann residing in Bantam.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Roy Beach; brother, Richard (Carole) Beach.
Mary is survived by her sons, William (Diana) Bennett; Gordon (late Debra) Bennett; Mark (Robin) Bennett and daughter, Candace (James) Quigley; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Rd., Litchfield from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2020. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bantam at 11:00 am on Friday. Burial will follow in Bantam Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
