Obituary for Marion Victoria Jene

Marion (Victoria) "Vicki" Jene
August 2, 1956 - July 7, 2021

Marion (Victoria) "Vicki" Jene of Torrington, died peacefully July 7, 2021 with family by her side, following a courageous, nearly four year battle against ovarian cancer. She was the daughter of the late Albert F., and Lillian (Falk) Jene. She is survived by her sister, Beverly Jene of Vermont, and a life long friend whom she considered a sister, Brenda Crowell of Torrington. She is also survived by several cousins and close friends.

Following her graduation from Torrington High School, Vicki received her BS degree in history from the University of Hartford, later earning a Master's degree. She also graduated from the New England Synod (ECLA) School of Lay Ministry. She retired from the State of CT as a counselor/teacher in Mental Health Assistant Two.

Vicki's greatest treasure was her strong faith in God, which was reflected in her unshakable faith, compassionate friendship, and as a willing helper. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Torrington. In addition to using her Lay Ministry degree, she served as song leader in the New England Synod Women for the ECLA, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, served on the Christian Education Committee, belonged to the Women's Group, and participated in the Bible Study. Throughout the years Vicki also participated in many activities at the First Congregational Church, and in Central CT Tres Dias.

Music was an engrained part of Vicki. In addition to singing in the church choir, she shared her musical talents by playing in her high school band, singing in community performances, as well as serenading those around her while singing to calm herself during medical tests and treatments.

Vicki was a member of the Litchfield County Writer's Guild. At the time of her death she was writing an historical book based on the world's current events gleaned from letters her parents exchanged while her father was deployed overseas during WWII.

Although the days of her retirement were shortened, her dreams to join the Sullivan Senior Center as well as to tap into her creativity through drawing, painting, and writing during retirement were achieved!

Heartfelt thanks go out to all of the many medical professionals and drivers who helped Vicki throughout this trying journey. Special thanks are given to Dr. Molly Brewer, Karen Metersky, and the rest of the Gynecologic Oncology team at the Neag Cancer Center at UCONN Health Center for their loving care and support throughout the last several years.

Additionally, sincere thanks are extended to all of the doctors and nurses at the Smilow Cancer Center and the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital who cared for Vicki, especially during the last month.
