Obituary for Kevin V. Goodwin

TORRINGTON – Dr. Kevin V. Goodwin, 62, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, CT following a long, brave fight against Multiple Myeloma. He was the husband of Kathryn (Henne) Goodwin for 30 years. He was born and raised in Plymouth, son of Charles Hubbard and Doris (Blake) Goodwin.

Kevin graduated from Waterbury State Technical College in 1976 with an Associate’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He subsequently graduated from Central Connecticut State College in 1980 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics. Kevin proudly earned his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry in 1986 from Purdue University. He worked most recently for Materion Corporation in Windsor as a Research & Development Manager.

Spending time with his family and his faith were especially important to Kevin. He also enjoyed cooking, his electronic gadgets, and classic TV programs.

In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by his daughter, Gillian Goodwin, his brother, Michael Goodwin of Florida, his sister, Karen Delaney of Vermont, three sisters-in-law, Sharon Goodwin of Florida, Betsy Goodwin of Litchfield, Karen Anderson and husband Robert of Farmington, brother-in-law Ronald Henne and wife Susan of Bristol, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved Bichon Frise, Cooper. He was predeceased by his brothers; Allan Goodwin, Ralph Goodwin, Phillip Goodwin and Terry Goodwin; sisters-in-law Gladys Goodwin, Kazuko Goodwin; and brother-in-law Terry Delaney.

Kevin’s family would like to thank Dr. Ashita Talsania, Dr. Christina Gomez, and the wonderful nurses at the Smilow Cancer Care Center, Torrington for their compassionate care. We would also like to thank Dr. Kenneth C. Anderson and Tina Flaherty, Oncology NP at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for their expertise, compassion, and ability to instill hope to continue the fight.

A Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Litchfield on August 18, 2019 at 2:00PM. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ‘Kevin V. Goodwin Memorial Scholarship Fund’, c/o Webster Bank, 1180 East Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790. This fund will monetarily award outstanding graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
