Obituary for Katherine "Katie" Aziz (Aument)

Katherine (Katie) Aument Aziz, 81, of Litchfield, died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease on Sunday, April 19th, at Brandywine Senior Living in Litchfield, CT. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Sarah Ward, and is survived by her brother Daniel (Charlene) Aument, her children George (Tae Im) Aziz, Peter (Susan) Aziz and Gwen (Alden) Boynton, and her six grandchildren Helen, Claire and Lucy Aziz, Catherine Partrick, Jaemin Aziz and Graham Boynton.

Katie was born on December 10th, 1938 in East Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Richard Perry Aument and Mary Newton Aument. She earned a BA in English Literature at the University of Michigan and went on to do graduate level work in the same field. She married Paul Aziz, from whom she was later divorced.
She moved with her family to Providence, Rhode Island in 1963 and then to West Hartford, CT in 1967. She taught at the Bugbee Elementary School there, volunteered as a goodwill ambassador at Hartford Hospital, and was very active in the Junior League.

Katie moved to Litchfield, CT with her family in 1981, and was one of the owners of Bantam Fuel, working as bookkeeper and head of Human Resources for 20 years. She was one of the leaders in Oliver Wolcott Library’s longstanding commitment to record audio books for the blind, giving thousands of hours of her clear, lyrical reading voice. A dedicated parishioner of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield, Katie served on the Vestry and volunteered in countless ways.

Katie studied classical piano throughout her life, and played virtually every day, right up through March of this year. She was also a dog lover, a knitter, and an avid traveler, especially enjoying trips to England and to Mexico.

There will be a memorial service at St. Michael’s once restrictions are lifted, and advance notice will be given. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield.
