Obituary for Karen Loretta Stoddard (Surdam)
TORRINGTON – Karen Loretta (Surdam) Stoddard, 63, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 31, 2022.
Karen was born on October 18, 1958 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, Conn., the daughter of Benjamin H. Surdam and the late Grace B. (Squires) Surdam.
Karen was raised in Litchfield where she attended local schools and graduated from Litchfield High School. She worked in customer service for Patterson Oil Company for over 15 years. She enjoyed reading, watching movies and spending time with loved ones.
In addition to her father, Ben, Karen is survived by her two daughters, Tina L. Runk and Tammy S. Martin, both of Pennsylvania; two sons, Thomas E. Mellott of Virginia and Joseph M.S. Haag of New York; six grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Orner, Sandra M. Martin, Kaylea A. Martin, Wyatt J. Martin; all of Pennsylvania, Blake T. Mellott and Hailee G. Mellott, both of Virginia; and a great-grandson, Hayden A.J. McElroy of Pennsylvania. In addition to her mother, Grace, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Surdam.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 1:30pm at Bantam Cemetery, Bantam.
