Obituary for Karen L. Hawley
Karen Louise Hawley, 70, of Canaan, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021. She was born in Torrington to the late Samuel and Kathleen Hawley and lived much of her life in northwestern Connecticut. A graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Karen attended Keuka College in New York and Beloit College in Wisconsin.
Karen frequently brought her abilities to the communities where she found herself. Using her command of multiple languages Karen sang in various choirs and chorales, led a Cub Scout den for four years and transported special needs students. In later years she served several terms as president of the resident council at Geer Village Senior Community and also as part of the executive board of the Statewide Coalition of Presidents of Resident Councils.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Goshen Ward for many years. The temple inspired her and she enjoyed doing genealogy and family history work on behalf of her ancestors. One of the things she will be remembered for most is her positive attitude. She was a woman of faith and courage.
Karen is survived by her son Samuel and his wife Kelly Thomas of Terryville, two grandchildren Devone and Samantha, a great grandchild Antonio and her brothers Peter and Timothy. She was pre-deceased by her brother John.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 10, 6:30 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Goshen Ward, 122 North Street (Route 63), Goshen CT 06756. For everyone’s health all attendees are required to wear a mask. There will be no calling hours.
