Obituary for John Howard Staub II

John Howard Staub II (Jack) died on Nov. 29, 2020 at his home in Litchfield, CT at the age of 93 after a brief illness with COVID 19.

Jack was born in New Haven on August 12, 1927 to Howard Randall Staub and Margaret Dunn. He later lived in Stamford, as well as in New Preston at Lake Waramaug. Graduating from the Choate School in 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and, following his service, graduated from Georgetown University.

He met his wife, Faith Hussey of Litchfield, at a local party in Litchfield County. They married on June 18, 1949 and were together for almost 50 years. Residing briefly in Washington DC and Litchfield, they lived for many years in Stamford at “Et Cetera”, before moving back to Litchfield thirty years ago, raising six children along the way.
Jack had a long and successful career in specialty packaging sales, working for Palmer Associates, Carlin Container and Schiffenhaus Packaging. He was the consummate salesman, well known for his gift of connecting with people through his wonderful sense of humor.

Jack was an avid and accomplished golfer his whole life as a member of the Woodway Country Club, the Washington Club, and the Litchfield Country Club. An excellent cook, Jack could pull together incredible feasts with casual ease and flair. He was renowned for keeping up with the times into his nineties, actively texting, emailing, posting on Facebook, and creating a series of YouTube videos as “Geri Atrik.”
But most of all, Jack was an extraordinary father and a beloved family patriarch. He was a loyal friend and confidant, the dinner companion everyone sought. He was generous in sharing his gifts, and his infectious laugh and incandescent smile brightened the lives of all who knew Jack.

He is predeceased by his wife, Faith Hussey (Litchfield, CT), his only brother James Dunn Staub (Judith Flanders Staub - California, Hawaii), and his oldest son, John Howard Staub III (Renny Reynolds - Wrightstown, PA and Lake Worth, FL). He is survived by his five remaining children, Sharon Harriet Staub Doty (d. Ted Doty - Litchfield, CT), Charles Lincoln Hussey Staub (Dale DeSanto Staub - Litchfield, CT), Nancy Peck Staub Laughlin (Toby Laughlin - Skillman, NJ), Harriet Brownson Huston (Jack Huston - New York, NY), and Nicholas Edwards Staub (Kathryn Schmidt Staub - Lumberton, NJ), and by fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four nieces and nephews. The family shares its grief with Joan Larned (Kent, CT), whose companionship brightened Jack’s life in recent years.

Funeral services and burial of his ashes at the Center Cemetery in New Milford will be held when conditions under the pandemic allow for this to be done safely.
