Obituary for John P. Halloran

MORRIS – John P. Halloran, 87, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020. He was the loving and beloved husband of JoAnn C. Halloran for 62 years.
John was born in Waterbury CT on September 1, 1932, son of the late Patrick and Mary (Bagley) Halloran. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, received a BS as part of the third graduating class of Fairfield University and a Master’s in Education from Central Connecticut State College. John also attended the Boston College School of Law.
John enjoyed the many years he taught at the Roger Sherman Elementary and Middle School in Sherman CT as their science teacher. During his tenure as a teacher, he was best known for his sense of humor, his passion for science and his ability to connect with students; conveying complex concepts in an understandable and engaging manner . As testament to his mastery as an educator, several of John’s students were recipients of regional and national science awards. He retired after 35 years of service.
John was also a student of history, especially with respect to military history. His love for this subject matter and his penchant for story-telling carried over into several areas of his life. John had a near eidetic memory when it came to recounting historic battles and military strategy and he also brought history to life through his mastery of model building; he was among the finest builders of Napoleonic miniatures in the country.
He was predeceased by his wife JoAnn and a brother James, he is survived by four sons and a daughter, Michael Halloran and his wife Nancy Sarra of Weatogue, Mark Halloran and his wife Charlene of Morris, Stephen Halloran and his wife Janet Mann of Fernandina Beach, FL., Sharon Curry and her husband Stephen of Morris and James Halloran of Morris; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, will be private. Once attendance restrictions have been lifted a memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
