JoanAnn (Shaw) Savoy
February 23, 1942 ~ March 3, 2020
On the evening of March 3rd, 2020 Ms. JoanAnn Savoy of Torrington, CT passed away at the age of 78. She was born to George Francis Shaw and Helen Mary Coddington in Waterbury, CT on February 23, 1942. She was a retired Quality Control Engineer, a mother of three, and a grandmother of seven.
JoanAnn is survived by her children, Jeffery Savoy and his wife Judy, Dori Savoy and her partner Tony Puzinski of Torrington, CT, and Helen Brooks and her husband Keith Dougal of Columbia, SC. Her seven grandchildren, for whom she had immense love and affection, include Jordan Savoy, Danny Brooks, and Skylar Walsh and her partner Jason Abbott of Torrington, CT; Devin Savoy and her fiancé Jeremiah Murphy of Harwinton, CT; Martin Savoy and his partner Kerry Huria of Terryville, CT; Derek J. Savoy of Clarksville, TN; and Hannah Walsh of Columbia, SC. JoanAnn is also survived by her brothers George Shaw and Paul Papp Sr. of Florida.
JoanAnn volunteered her time and talents in any way that she could. This included teaching and sharing her passion for painting and creating beautiful artwork. She was an incredible artist who taught classes at Valerie Manor and Koury Terrace in Torrington. JoanAnn participated in multiple painting clubs and groups, including the Litchfield Hills Painting Club, and helped create several wonderful murals that are still displayed throughout Litchfield County. She made the world a better place with the beauty of her artwork, and her avid generosity.
JoanAnn was passionate about her family, giving back to her community and has always had a green thumb – she could grow anything. It was one of her favorite things to do. She also enjoyed spending time with her family whether it be family gatherings, outings or just talking on the phone for a while. She had many friends and relatives who she cherished and inspired.
A service for JoanAnn Savoy will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
