Obituary for Joan Marie Crown (Grusauskas)
Southington – Joan Marie Crown, 80, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2022 at Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. She was the wife of the late Martin J. Crown Jr. who passed away in 1990. Joan was born on April 27, 1942 in Torrington, Connecticut to the late Doris (Hennequin) and Francis Grusauskas.
Joan grew up in Goshen and attended local schools. She graduated from Simmons College with a degree in education. She taught History in the Meriden School Systems. After several years Joan and Martin moved to West Hartford. Joan got involved in Girl Scouting, and met her best friend, Nancy Anderson. She had a troop for years and eventually went to work for the Hartford Girl Scouts Council. After retirement she and Nancy traveled extensively in this country and abroad, but their favorite destination was Walt Disney World which they visited many times, often with members of Nancy’s family tagging along.
Joan is survived by her two sisters; Barbara Costello of Unionville, CT and Denise Garrett of Cotuit, MA, her brother, Frank Grusauskas of Falls Village, CT, 12 nieces and nephews; Carolyn, Elaine, Bartley, John, Talbot, Nina, Jamie, Corey, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Rosie and Jonathan. In addition to her husband, Martin, and her parents, Doris and Francis, Joan is predeceased by her sister Patricia Rickard and her niece, Wendy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North Street, Goshen. Calling hours will be held prior from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
