Obituary for Janet P. Savickas

Janet P. Savickas
Janet Louise Savickas
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother

Janet passed away peacefully at home on September 4, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born September 28, 1928 and was a lifelong member of the Morris Congregational Church. Janet, or “Meme”, as she was fondly referred to by her grandchildren, was the daughter of the late Dorothy and Fred Perret and one of five children.

Janet grew up on her parents’ farm in Bethlehem where she rode horses and cared for dairy cows and would later pass on her love for animals to her daughters and grandchildren. She was especially fond of cooking and welcoming friends and family into her home as a generous host. She was a devout New Englander with a love for blueberry picking and apple pie baking that she nurtured in her daughters and granddaughters who remember trips to the patch and orchard starting when they were very small. The girls still attempt to recreate Janet’s famous apple pie during the holidays and cherish the memory of calling her for help or a tip from her iconic recipe box.

Janet was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, UConn Women’s Basketball and a champion of her children and grandchildren’s various sports teams in their youth. No matter how high or low a score, Janet never missed a chance to cheer on her team.

Janet is survived by her husband Eugene Savickas; her three daughters, Linda Golden of Carmel, Maine; Susan Smith and her husband Michael of Litchfield; and Karen Stackpoole and her husband Roger of Syracuse, NY. Janet is also survived by four granddaughters, Jessica McGarry and her husband Mark of Medfield, Massachusetts; Alexandra Deming of Poughkeepsie, NY; Katie Smith of Torrington, Megan Smith of Litchfield; as well as two great-grandsons, Jack and Matthew McGarry. Janet will also be missed by a large extended family, and numerous friends in the Morris area.

The family would like to thank the many aides and nurses along with the VNS of Connecticut for the exceptional care and comfort they provided to Janet during her illness so that she was able to remain in her home.

There will be a memorial service for Janet Savickas at 11:00 a.m. at the Morris Congregational Church on Saturday, September 15, 2018. The service will be followed by a reception at the Morris Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Janet Savickas may be made to the Morris Congregational Church.
