Obituary for Janet W. Fairchild

Northfield - Janet “Nettie” W. Fairchild, age 100, widow of Harold J. Fairchild, of Northfield, died Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at her home with her caregiver, Maria Campos, at her side.

She was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on January 11, 1920, to the late Robert R. and Mary M. (Somerville) Wilson.

Nettie became a citizen of the United States of America on September 16, 1935, growing up in Thomaston. After graduating from Thomaston High School, she was employed at Seth Thomas; married Harold in 1951; raised her family; and was a bookkeeper employed at and retired from Donham Craft in Naugatuck.

She was a devoted mother raising her three boys with Harold, and volunteered in numerous church and secular activities. She was also devoted to living a life of faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Plymouth.

She is survived by her three sons: Kenneth of New Hampshire, Joel and David of Northfield and their wives; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and her cat, Murphy. Besides her parents and husband Harold, she was predeceased by her brother James S. Wilson of Thomaston as well as many other family and friends.

At her request, a private burial in Northfield Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Having to learn American English at a young age, she became and remained an avid reader and requested donations in her memory be made to Friends of the Thomaston Public Library, 248 Main Street, Thomaston CT 06787.
