Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather
Warren – James Michael Byrnes, 83, passed away on January 2, 2022 at home. He was the husband of Margaret Mary (FitzGerald) Byrnes. Jim was born on October 1, 1938 in New York, New York to the late John Joseph Byrnes and Ruth Dorothy (McMorrow) Byrnes.
Jim graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, New York in 1956 and earned a Degree from St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York, graduating in 1977. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 and was in the United States Army Reserves until 1963.
Jim worked as a vice president for Citibank for 42 years before retiring in 1998. During those years, he worked in New York, New York, Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California.
He enjoyed golfing and was a fan of St. John’s Basketball, the New York Yankees, the New York Giants and University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball.
In addition to his wife, Margaret Byrnes of Warren, Connecticut, Jim is survived by his two sons; James “Jim” Byrnes and his wife Nancy of Surprise, Arizona and Christopher Byrnes and his wife Hillary of Falls Church, Virginia, his daughter, Kerri Anne Byrnes of Warren, Connecticut, and his granddaughter, Catherine Grace Byrnes of Falls Church, Virginia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 4:00-7:00pm at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
One of James’ friends put it best, “A truer gentleman, friend, family man, and career professional rarely walked the earth as well as did James Byrnes.”
