Obituary for Irene E. Blazek

Litchfield – Irene (Reznick) Blazek passed away peacefully at her home on December 7, 2022, after 100 great years of life, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Blazek, Jr. Irene was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1922 to the late Paul and Anna (Pisarczyk) Reznick.
Irene cherished her 61 years of marriage with her husband Joe, where they enjoyed their winters in Florida, always to return summers to their home in Litchfield. Although she was employed by Litchfield Bancorp as Mortgage Clerk for 20 years, she most cherished her retirement years as a housewife, mother, and grandmother, where she knitted, crocheted, and quilted blankets and clothes for her grandchildren. Irene usually showed her love for us by inserting a heart into what she sewed, baked, crocheted, or knitted.
As a member of Daughters of Isabella of St. Anthony Church, she enjoyed baking her Slovakian pastries for their holiday bazaars. Her days were spent planting in her garden and feeding the birds, eventually ending with watching her grandsons play baseball at Community Field or a refreshing walk down South Lake Street through Whites Woods.
She is survived by her children and their spouses Robert Blazek, Jim and Carole (Blazek) Weaver and Richard and Cynthia (Baldwin) Blazek. Grandchildren Samuel and Sophia Blazek and Sawyer and Esther Blazek of Arlington, VA, Kyle and Christine Weaver of Litchfield, CT Lauren (Vukota) Weaver of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, Brittany (Blazek) and Charles O’Neill of West Hartford, CT and Chris and Becca (Odenwaelder) Blazek of Litchfield, CT and great grandchildren, Colton Vukota, Brycen, Caela, and Brynn O’Neill, and Joey, Sophia, and Amelia Blazek, and Haru and Taeho Blazek. Irene is also survived by several nieces and nephews of Torrington. In addition to her husband, Joseph, Irene is predeceased by her son, Joseph Blazek III, her brothers; Albert, Richard and Paul Reznick and her sisters, Mary R. Caruso and Ann (Reznick) Buckley.

Home is where the heart is and Irene would have never gotten to 100 years without the support, care, and love from all of her caregiving agencies and caregivers who supported mom’s wish to journey from home to heaven. It would not have been possible without them!
