Obituary for Herman Oscar Rogg

Herman O. Rogg, 90, of Goshen, CT and Hague, NY, left this earth to join our Lord in Heaven on February 17, 2022. Herman, or “Herman The German”, as many know him, was born in Bronx, NY on September 6th, 1931 to Hermann F. Rogg and Mathilda Rominger Rogg, both immigrants from German. The family subsequently moved to New Jersey where Herman graduated from Union High School. After studying for eight years at nights while maintaining a job six days a week at the Graber-Rogg Tool and Die shop, Herman graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (NCE). He later became the president and CEO of Graber-Rogg Inc. which he grew from a small garage operation to a major plastic injection molding company in Cranford, NJ.

Herman always had a passion for automobiles and one of his first cars was a 1940 Lincoln Continental convertible that he purchased in 1951. Herman met his wife, Nadine Warner, in 1952. The two courted and later honeymooned to Lake George and Niagara Falls in the Lincoln. The Lincoln remains in the family to this date. Amazingly, the Lincoln became practically a part of the family as it was utilized all through life’s major events to include bringing their two children home from the hospital and weddings. The car has been used for annual vacations to tour the United States on antique car caravans with the Classic Car Club of America. Herman went on to collect and restore several other classic cars though the Lincoln was always his favorite.

Herman designed and built their current home in Goshen, CT. In 1999. The couple purchased and restored a summer home on beautiful Lake George, NY where they resided throughout the spring and summer months.

Herman was always a loving, happy and generous husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid golfer, belonging to Torrington Country Club in CT and Ticonderoga Country Club in NY. Herman was a brilliant handyman, having the skills to practically repair or build anything. He designed Adirondack style furniture and accessories for his Lake George home.

Herman is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nadine Rogg; his son and daughter, Douglas Rogg and Cynthia Baldwin; four grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Baldwin, Kevin and Stephanie Rogg; his great granddaughter, Arianna Checchetto and his first cousin, Ralph Rominger. Herman was very grateful for all the support and love provided to him by his children throughout his later years and illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Herman’s name to Hartford Hospice Healthcare at Home, 680 Main Street, Watertown, CT 06795. All are welcome to attend a celebration of life service for Herman which will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11:00am at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.
