Obituary for Gladys B. Reil

Gladys Merle (Bishop) Reil of Litchfield Connecticut died on December 28th, 2020 at her home. She was the wife of Wilfred J Reil Jr. (deceased) and was born on December 10,1935 in Kingsbury New York. She is the daughter of the late Evelyn (Reynolds) Bishop and Kenneth Bishop. She is a graduate Hartford Central High school in New York and got her Nursing degree from the Schenectady Hospital Association’s Training School for Nurses.
She was an Operating Room nurse at Hartford Hospital for seven years and then worked in the Operating Room at Charlotte Hungerford in Torrington Connecticut for an additional 27 years. She “retired” in 1994 but continued to work per diem for another 5 years including a nursing mission to Haiti. She was a member of the Litchfield Junior Woman’s club, Goshen Players and active in her church choir. She was a board member and past corresponding secretary for Litchfield Health and Wellness Resources Inc. for nearly 14 years.
She was an avid traveler and enjoyed, bowling, playing bridge and “teaching others” to play canasta. She enjoyed many of her summers with her family and grandchildren at the family cottage on Hog Island Rhode Island.
She is survived by her daughter Robin Croci of Litchfield Connecticut, daughter and son in law Jodi and Kevin Guerette of Daniel Island South Carolina and her son Joe Reil (Wilfred J Reil III) of Simsbury Connecticut. She is survived by her grand-daughter and husband Marisa and Mike Chorney, grandson’s Kevin Guerette Jr., Ian and Brandon Croci, and Daxeur Reil. She is survived by her three sisters Barbara and husband Don Falcetti, Myrtle Virgil, Kay and husband Bill Jaquith, brother Richard Bishop (deceased) and half-sister Clara Bruno.
