Obituary for George Arthur Humphrey Jr.
U.S. Coast Guard Veteran
MORRIS – George Arthur Humphrey, Jr., 71, passed away on January 1, 2022 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra “Sandy” (Rarick) Humphrey.
Born in Torrington, on April 7, 1950, he was the son of the late George A. Sr. and Marjorie (Palmer) Humphrey.
George served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 4 years including 2 ½ years served on the USCGC Dallas. George continued his service to his community by joining the Morris Fire Department (now the Morris Fire Co.) and was a member for over 50 years. George worked for the Town of Litchfield for over 40 years and retired in November 2019.
George is survived by his son, George A. Humphrey III, and his wife, Jill; a sister, Carol Evans and her husband, Lew; a sister-in-law, Diane Freer; two nieces, Doreen Kingston (Rusty) and Darlene Sawyer (Ed); and 2 great-nieces, Ashlyn and Lindsay.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 15, at Hillside Cemetery, Walnut Street, Torrington. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 15 at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn.
