Obituary for G. Lloyd Wellnitz Sr.

G. Lloyd Wellnitz, 92, passed away at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on November 3, 2020, four days after the passing of his beloved wife of 55 years, Doris (Von Tobel) Wellnitz.

Lloyd was born on July 21, 1928, at Waterbury Hospital, the son of Emma Drumm Wellnitz. Lloyd was a Litchfield High School graduate and attended Syracuse University. He proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. He worked as a self-employed Graphic Designer for 23 years, retiring in 1993.

Lloyd was one of the founding members of Paint with Friends at the Litchfield Community Center and was a member of the American Legion Post 27 and the United Methodist Church Litch-field. He was an avid violinist, viola player, piano player and was an exceptional artist; especial-ly paintings, drawings and portraits. An excellent woodworker, he enjoyed making furniture and toys and was an inventor of “contraptions.” Lloyd loved dogs, the outdoors and cutting fire-wood but most of all he was a huge family man with a big sense of humor and was always the life of the party.

Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Amy Abramson of Torrington; his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Deana Wellnitz of Torrington; his granddaughter, Lindsey Fitzpatrick and husband, Thomas, of Torrington; his great granddaughter, Evelyn Fitzpatrick of Torrington; dear friends, Jerry and Pat Hornak of New Preston; and 13 nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 1:00pm at West Cemetery, Whites Wood Road, Litchfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Litchfield Hills Chore Service www.choreservicelh.org
