Obituary for Frederick Montello

Frederick Montello, Sr., 68, of Bantam, CT was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 27, 1954 to Nicholas and Francesca Montello. He graduated from JFK High School in Bellmore, NY and went on to the US Navy Corp School in San Diego serving as a Hospital Corpsman for four years on the USS Truxton during the Vietnam war. He participated in the refugee evacuation providing healthcare in the Philippines camp and was discharged honorably. Fred married Lorraine Thibodeau in 1973 and had two children - Frederick, Jr. and Jessica. A believer in life-long learning, Fred received a Bachelor of Science in Technology, and an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Biomedical Engineering Technology. He was a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician, and had many certifications and several case studies published throughout his 30+ year career. Fred remarried in 2013 to Sandra Martin and moved to Bantam, CT where they lived in what Fred loved to call his “natural paradise” for the remainder of his life.
Fred was a lover of nature, from bird-watching, fly fishing, kayaking, to watching the bear’s that frequented his backyard. His soul felt most at peace surrounded by nature. His favorite pastimes included anything that involved crafting with his hands, which were very gifted. He used them to spoil his family and friends with homemade treats and delicious meals, tied his own flies for fly-fishing, and created wooden wonders including a canoe, hope chest, children’s toys, and endless home projects. He was a musician at heart. Music was always a constant in his life, and his beautiful tenor voice or his saxophone could be heard throughout the neighborhood. A devoted NY Yankees and Green Bay Packers fan, on Sunday’s in the Fall he could often be found sporting his “Cheesehead”.
He will be greeted in heaven by his parents Nicholas and Francesca Montello and his beloved Westies - Piccolo, Oboe, and Pfeife. Fred is survived by his wife, Sandra Montello; his children, Fred/Nicole Montello, Jessica/Andrew Morozowich and their mother Lorraine Thibodeau; and four grandchildren, Miles, Samantha, Audrey, and Andrew; also his step-children Shannon/Aaron Arcano, Sean Halpin; and their children Addison, Levi, McKenna, and Brinley; his four brothers, Vincent, Nicholas, Michael, and Joseph Montello; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Woodbury on Saturday, June 11th 10AM. For additional information visit GatheringUs.Com - Fred Montello. Donations can be made to the World Wildlife Fund to support the animals he loved .
