Obituary for Evelyn Virginia Hudson

HARWINTON – Evelyn Virginia (Taylor) Hudson, 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on December 2, 2019. She was the beloved wife of Richard Barbour Hudson for 55 years.

Born in New Haven, on September 26, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Virginia Maine (Williams) Taylor.

Evelyn was a longtime member of Center Congregational Church where she served as a Deacon, Laity Minister, Stephen’s Minster, and held leadership roles in Christian Education. She was very entrepreneurial; in the early 1970’s, she created the Hudson Home Bakery, where she made delicious pies and breads from her very own kitchen. She was recognized by Connecticut Magazine, and had her own Baking column in the Torrington Register. Prior to her retirement, Evelyn enjoyed working in Hospice Care, and as a Home Health Aide for Visiting Nurse Services of Connecticut.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Richard, she is survived by her daughter; Carolyn B. Poley (Mark); her son, John B. Hudson; her sister, Katherine Darling; her brothers, Robert Taylor (Robin), Ronald Taylor (Nancee) and Thomas Taylor (Heidi); her sister-in-law, Phyllis Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was predeceased by four brothers; Frank, Frederick, Edward, and James Taylor; and her sister-in-law, Donna Kuehn.

Evelyn’s family would like to sincerely thank Ann Inman for her friendship, loving care and support of their Mom.
