On May 6, 2020, Evan J. Williams, 81, went to join the love of his life Barbara. He was born in Easton, PA on 21 November 1938, the only child of the late Margaret and Evan P. Williams. He grew up in Bangor, PA and in 1956 graduated from Bangor High School, where he played football for 4 years. He graduated with a BA in English from Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in 1961 as a 2nd Lieutenant Infantry Reserve Officer. While he was at PMC he played intramural and varsity football.
Following the Officers Orientation Course at Ft. Benning, Georgia, Evan was assigned to the 1st Armored Division, 2nd Battalion 46th Infantry HQ Company as the Recon Platoon Leader and later as the 106 Recoilless Rifle Anti-Tank Platoon Leader at Ft. Hood, Texas. He was a member of a combat loaded Joint Tank Force on it’s way to Cuba when the blockade was lifted. He completed his active duty as a rifle Company Executive Officer and was a Captain when he completed his military obligation and resigned his commission in 1966.
In 1964, he became employed in the employee benefits business where he designed, sold and serviced plans for private and public organizations from West Virginia to New York for two insurance companies for fifteen years. He started in Baltimore where he met his beautiful wife Barbara and they were married in 1967. They moved to Connecticut in 1979 and settled in Litchfield in 1983. After 20 years with a local independent insurance agency, Evan retired in 1999.
Evan was very involved with the Knights of Columbus and held several officer positions with Litchfield Council #56, Assembly #112 and the CT State Council for over 30 years. He also was a Lector at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Litchfield.
He loved fresh and saltwater fly fishing and golf. When he was younger he also hunted small and large game.
Barbara predeceased him in 2018. He leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and his friendly cat Tony whom he adored.
Burial will be private. A Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

You will be missed but I know your need to be with Barbara was much greater. You were an amazing man whom had given so much for his family, friends and community. So blessed to have known such a great man.

Evan, I am sad and my heart is broken to hear of your passing. I am honored to have met you 12 or 13 years ago and I am very thankful for the times that we got to spend together whether it was fresh or saltwater fishing, golfing, getting together to make lures, attending fishing dominate or simply just enjoying a cup of coffee together and with our friends Bill and Stetson. I was looking forward to fishing Cape Cod this coming fall with you but I am guessing that you were needed more in heaven with Barb and God. I will really miss you and I will always carry the memories of our times together with me until we meet again. I love you. Rest In Peace my friend.

Your friend Ray Bennett
