Obituary for Ernest Webster Clock

Ernest W. Clock died on May 22, 2020. He was 95 years old. Ernie was born and raised in Litchfield and attended public schools there. After graduation, he served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a mechanic servicing B-29 bombers flying over the “Hump” between India and China. When he was discharged, Ernie went to college in Utica, NY where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married in 1948 and soon returned to Litchfield, CT where they raised their 3 boys. Ernie worked at and subsequently became the owner of the F. North Clark Insurance Agency. He also served for many years as the Chairman of the First National Bank of Litchfield. Ernie was involved in a number of community groups, including the Red Cross, Rotary Club, Sandy Beach Commission and the Boy Scouts. He was always there for his family, friends and community.
Ernie loved the water, growing up on Bantam Lake, and later at his and Dorothy’s cottage in Rhode Island. He always had a boat, from canoes to sailboats to a 20’ cabin cruiser on which he and Dorothy took trips around Long Island Sound, the Hudson River and Lake Champlain, and the Erie Canal. He enjoyed shellfishing for clams and oysters and liked nothing better than to grill them for his family.
Ernie was predeceased by his mother and father, Helen and Albert Clock, and his brother Robert Clock. He is survived by Dorothy (Indermill) Clock, his wife of 72 years, his son Jeffrey and fiancée Janet of Willsboro, NY, his son Thomas and wife Bonnie of Poncha Springs, CO and his son Daniel and wife Suzanne of Litchfield. He had three grandsons; Caleb, Noah and Sam and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie (Clock) Mitchell of Wellesley, MA.
Our family is thankful for the loving care provided to Dad by Jamie Wesolowski, Sabrina Perogla, Sue Rinaldi, Dianne Bammon and many more. Also many thanks to Litchfield Volunteer Ambulance crews for their professionalism and compassion.
Memorial donations may be made to the Litchfield Volunteer Ambulance, PO Box 651, Litchfield, CT 06759.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 17, at West Cemetery, Litchfield. Friends and family may call on July 16 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.
