Eileen B. Salatto
Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother

Eileen B. Salatto, 93, of Litchfield passed away peacefully on December 26 at her home surrounded by family. She was the widow and loving wife of John J. Salatto, Sr.

Eileen was born in New York on April 3, 1927 to the late John and Anna Burns. She is survived by her four children, Dr. John J. Salatto and his wife Susan of Litchfield, Ann Elizabeth Kitchin and her husband Pastor Gary S. Kitchin of Litchfield, Michele S. Better of Goshen, and Valerie P. Parsons and her husband Paul of Centerville, Massachusetts. She is also survived by her brother Rev. John P. Burns, Jr. of Ridgecrest, California, her sister Theresa D. Salatto of Winter Springs, Florida, and sister-in-law Dolores Salatto of East Meadow, New York. She was predeceased by a sister, Anna May Burns. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren that she loved with her heart and soul.

Before moving to Litchfield in 1968, Eileen worked in real estate and banking in New York. Her love of travel brought her around the world to London, Russia, then the USSR, the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and of course, Ireland. Even with these experiences, her travels across America were special since this was “her beloved country”. Moving to Connecticut gave her and her husband the opportunity to enjoy country life taking many trips throughout New England.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 4 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Litchfield. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Mass will be private and limited to family members only.

Memorial contributions in Eileen’s name may be sent to the Bantam Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 456, Bantam, CT 06750 or Foothills Visiting Nurses, 32 Union Street, Winsted, CT 06098.
