DOUGLASS A. PARKER
Doug Parker, proud father and grandfather, passed away February 20, 2019 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Reading, PA, on January 18, 1948, the son of George D. and Evelyn Englehart Parker. Doug attended Reading, PA schools and was a graduate of Appalachian State University, George Mason University and Southern Connecticut State University. He was a veteran of the US Army and a retired classroom and technology teacher from the Litchfield Public Schools.
Doug was an avid volunteer throughout his adulthood, serving on the Litchfield PTO, the Litchfield Children’s Fund, Litchfield Economic Development Commission, NW CT Economic Development Commission, LABA, the Litchfield Education Foundation, the Litchfield Aquatic Center Committee, the Litchfield Community Center, Litchfield Players, and the Litchfield Education Association. He mentored beginning teachers in the Litchfield Schools. He also volunteered as a coach for youth soccer, basketball, football and baseball.
In 2009, when the Litchfield Enquirer went out of business, Doug saw a community need and created an online media site, Litchfield.bz, which became a popular news source for the area towns.
Doug is survived by his wife Denise, his sons Timothy Douglass and wife Kylie of Fleetwood, NC, Leland of Watertown, Andrew and his wife Meghan of Bantam, Ian and his wife Kara of Goshen; grandchildren Timothy, Coral, Steven, Kyle, Jalen, Eibhlin, Maibel, Grant, Finn, Reid, Wes and Wyn; and several great grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth G. and Roger D. Parker and daughter-in-law Erin McGuigan Parker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street., Litchfield. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Litchfield Children’s Fund, PO Box 774, Litchfield, CT 06759. This fund provides funds for warm winter clothing for Litchfield children.
