Obituary for Douglas Gyurko

Torrington
Douglas Gyurko peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born in Torrington, CT on March 2, 1949, he was the son of the late Balint and Julia (Bondos) Gyurko.
Douglas graduated from Torrington High School Class of 1967 where he excelled in mathematics and was voted Most Collegiate Boy in his class. He went on to graduate from Fairfield University in 1971 with a BS in Accounting and worked as a financial analyst for several major companies including Uniroyal, ITT, Avco Lycoming Textron and the IRS.
He loved spending time outdoors at White Memorial Conservation Center hiking trails and cross-country skiing, swimming at Mt. Tom and the shores of Milford Beach and Martha’s Vineyard and playing golf and tennis. In 1977, he ran in the first Litchfield Hills Road Race and continued running in road races for many years. Doug excelled as an artist and painted throughout his lifetime. In the words of Frank Sinatra, he lived his life “My Way”.
He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Gyurko, son Jonathan Gyurko (Donna), grandsons Joseph Botelho, William and Robert Gyurko, his sister Paula Carbone (George), brothers Alan Gyurko (Jan) and Peter Gyurko (Helen) and several nieces and nephews.
Douglas was extremely grateful to his daughter Elizabeth and the staff of Valerie Manor for the care he received over the past two years.
