Doris Wellnitz
Doris (Von Tobel) Wellnitz, 84, passed away on October 30, 2020 at Valerie Manor. She was the beloved wife of Lloyd Wellnitz for 55 years.
Doris was born on February 17, 1936 in Waterbury, Conn., daughter of the late Howard and Freda (Thorne) Von Tobel and sister of the late Stephen Von Tobel and Patricia Perrin.
Doris graduated from Secretarial School and Wilby High School, Waterbury. She enjoyed work-ing at the UCONN Torrington Campus for 10 years before retiring in 2001.
Doris was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed music and was a huge fan of Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett. Doris volunteered at the American Red Cross, Litchfield Chapter. She enjoyed working as an administrative assistant at UCONN, Torrington Campus for 10 years. She was adored by students and staff for her huge smile and kindness, and upon her retirement 2001, the Doris Wellnitz Bachelor of General Stud-ies Scholarship was named in her honor.
In addition to her loving husband, Lloyd, of Litchfield, Doris is survived by her son and daugh-ter-in-law, Greg and Deana Wellnitz of Torrington; her daughter, Amy Abramson of Torrington; her granddaughter, Lindsey Fitzpatrick and husband, Thomas, of Torrington; her great grand-daughter, Evelyn Fitzpatrick of Torrington; her sister, Lois Carrington, of East Orleans, MA; her dear friends, Jerry and Pat Hornak of New Preston; and 13 nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 at 1:00pm at West Cemetery, Whites Wood Road, Litchfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Litchfield Hills Chore Service www.choreservicelh.org.
