Obituary for David Douglas Weik

David Weik passed away on February 20th of 2022 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends. Dave was born in 1942 to Mary E. Weik and John C. Weik of Lakeside, Connecticut. His caring stepfather, George Oren, was also an important part of Dave’s life. Dave graduated from Wamogo High School in 1961 and joined the United States Air Force, serving for four years. His assignments in the civil engineering field took him to North Dakota and Guam.
His high school sweetheart, Mary Fran Smith, flew to Guam to join him after completing her college degree. They were married there in 1964 and have spent 57 wonderful years together.
After leaving the Air Force, Dave worked for the Connecticut Department of Transportation for twenty years, as well as the White Memorial Foundation.
Later in life, Dave attended massage therapy school and initiated the pre- and post-race massage program on the Green for runners at the Litchfield Hills Road Race. He enjoyed coffee and breakfasts at Jackie’s with friends every Tuesday, as well as camaraderie and workouts with the Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group.
Dave was proud of his wonderful family, including his sons Todd (married to Sherry), David (Holly) and Hunter (Denise). He is also survived by seven grandsons: Kyle, Connor, Tyler, Devin, Josh, Chase and Christian; one granddaughter: Kaelyn; and three great granddaughters: Aleah, Tessa and Fiamma. He leaves his favorite (and only) sister Janet Gros, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 26th at St Paul’s Church in Bantam, followed by a reception at South Farms in Morris. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the many organizations Dave was involved in over the years.
