Obituary for Carl W. Drescher III
Carl W. Drescher III, of Bethlehem, Ct. passed away suddenly on December 24th.
Carl was born in Waterbury, Ct, on August 23, 1958 to Florence (Lindberg) and Carl W. Drescher, Jr. He grew up in Woodbury, Ct. and graduated from Nonnewaug High School.
Carl attended Bridgton Academy in Bridgeton Maine, and St. Michaels College in Colchester, Vt.
Deciding he had an inclination toward the electrical trade, he became certified as a journeyman at WF Kaynor Technical School in Waterbury, Ct. Carl turned his skills into a vocation that he enjoyed for many years, and his dedication to doing jobs correctly benefited several area electrical firms. He was the project manager for a large company in Southern Fairfield County for many years, and was currently employed by Cambridge Electric, of Prospect, Ct.

In 1981, Carl married Diane Booker, the love of his life. The couple settled in Bethlehem, where they raised two sons, Andrew Dresher (of Northfield, Ct.) and Joel Drescher (of Bethlehem, Ct.). In addition to his wife of 38 years, and his sons, Carl leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Bailey Drescher; his sister, Dayle Mason (of Lyme NH); many nieces and nephews; and Jesse, whom Carl welcomed into his family years ago.
In his younger years, Carl found fun and work at Woodbury Ski and Racquet, where he and 4 others broke records by all skiing down the hill buckled onto one pair of skis.
Fishing has been a passion for Carl since he was a young boy. For the last 11 years, he traded his spinning rod for a fly rod, and spent a great deal of time enjoying the challenges of fly fishing, much of it on the Farmington River.
Carl loved spending time with his family, whether it was on a family camping trip, or at a picnic at home, surrounded by friends and family. He also enjoyed road trips in the mustang with Diane. He reveled on the 4th of July, but didn’t feel the need to wait till that day to share some fun with fireworks.
Recently, Carl began to do some woodworking, using live edge boards, and fractal wood burning to create unique works of art.
He will always be remembered for his kind heart and welcoming, fun loving personality. He was quick to lend a hand, and was true to his word. Carl’s huge heart will be missed by many, as his love and caring for others had a wide reach.
Memorial Contributions in Carl’s honor may be made to the Farmington River Anglers Association, PO Box 177, New Hartford, CT 06057. Their mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the Farmington River Fishery. He would also urge you to buy a fishing pole and take a little one fishing!
Calling hours will be held at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home in Litchfield, Ct. on January 4th from 1:00-3:00.
An informal service of remembrance will follow at 3:00. Burial will be private.
