Obituary for Betty W. Gebhardt

Betty Jane (Williamson) Gebhardt, 96 , of Avon, formerly of Canton, New Hartford and Gaylordsville died peacefully at home on April 29th. She was the widow of John Richard Gebhardt Jr.
She was born March 30, 1924 in Danbury, CT daughter of the late A. Emanuel Williamson and Gladys (Chase) Williamson.
She attended the Gaylord District one-room school; graduated from New Milford High School Class of 1940; from Bay Path Institute, Springfield, MA Class of 1942; earned a Graduate Certificate from American Institute of Banking and was a member of the National Association of Bank Women. In 1979 she retired as Assistant Treasurer/ Manager of the Kent Branch of Colonial Bank.
Most of her life was spent in Gaylordsville. She and Rich retired to Homosassa, FL and returned to CT in 1995.
Betty was Past Matron of Armee Chapter #99 Order of Eastern Star. She was Grand Representative of Texas for Connecticut. She served on the Board of Directors of Eastern Star Charity Foundation of Connecticut. She was a former member of the Nefertti Chapter of Ladies of the Oriental Shrine in New Port Richie, FL.
She was the first chairwoman of the Committee for the Restoration and Preservation of the Gaylord District one-room schoolhouse in Gaylordsville and served on the board of directors of the Gaylord Cemetery. She was also a member of the Brooks-Green Woods Chapter, NSDAR and served as their treasurer for many years. She was also State Councillor for CTDAR.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Hartford.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Karen Brett and her husband, Bruce, two grandsons, Joshua (Andrea) Brett and Matthew (Nicole) Brett, both of Boston, MA; three great grandchildren, Julian, Mikayla and Nico; a brother David Williamson (Mary Jane) of Gaylordsville. She was predeceased by her grandson Michael Brett.
Due to the restrictions on social gatherings a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Gaylord Cemetery in Gaylordsville, CT.
