Obituary for Arline Elizabeth Phelan Sweeney

Arline Elizabeth Phelan Sweeney
Litchfield – Arline Sweeney of 173 Meadow Street in Litchfield passed away on June 2, 2022 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital at the age of 93. She was the wife of the late George F. Sweeney.
Arline was an amazing woman who was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, cook, baker, gardener and animal lover. She loved to spend every summer on Marancook Lake in Maine at her family cottage. She looked forward to holiday gatherings where she loved to cook for her family.
She was a lifelong member of the girl scouts and was a girl scout leader and council member as well as a trustee for the Litchfield County 4-H foundation both of which she was very proud.
Later in life, Arline began a rewarding, successful career as a real estate agent. She worked for John Fahey’s office for 30 years that was located in the center of Litchfield. She was president of the Litchfield County Board of Realtors in 1996 and was awarded Relator of the Year in 1999 and 2000.
Arline raised four children; Joan, Anne, David and Jane who are forever grateful for the love and care she gave them for over her 93 years.
Arline is survived by her four children; Joan Troup (Robert) of Hudson, New Hampshire, Anne Smith of Auburn, Maine, Jane Belanger (Don) of Winthrop, Maine and David Sweeney (Mary) of Litchfield, Connecticut, seven grandchildren; Jennifer Cahill (Bill), James Troup (Elizabeth), Joshua Smith (Judy), Erin St. Pierre (Adam), Amy Belanger, Benjamin Sweeney (Melissa) and Nicholas Sweeney (Karena), eight great grandchildren; Allyson Cahill, Cody Cahill, Evelyn St. Pierre, Elyse St. Pierre, Eli St. Pierre, Claire Sweeney, Madelyn Sweeney and Brooklyn Sweeney.
A private burial will take place in Maine.
