Anna E. Chapin, age 92, of New Milford CT passed away on January 7, 2023 at New Milford Hospital after a brief illness.
Anna was born on May 10, 1930 to Edith (Olson) and Arthur A. Zumpf in New Milford, CT. After Anna graduated from New Milford High School, she began working as a clerk for New Milford Town Clerk Howard Peck until stopping to raise her five children and then eventually went back to work in the Town Clerk’s Office. In 1975. Anna was elected Town Clerk and was then re-elected four times, serving for over twenty years before retiring in 1995.
Anna is survived by her children Curt Chapin and his wife Joanne of New Milford CT, Carol Smith and her husband Phil of Warren, CT, Cliff Chapin of Nome, Alaska, Connie Chapin of New Milford, CT, and Clark Chapin and his wife Pat Murphy of Ellington, CT, along with her nine grandchildren Amanda Chapin-Deehan, Nate Chapin, Logan Pearl Dege, Laine Cadorette, Max Chapin, Noah Chapin, Asa Chapin, Ryan Chapin, and Michael Chapin, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew. Anna was predeceased by her two sisters, Doris Walberg and Marion Sheldon.
Anna loved watching wildlife from her kitchen windows, whether it was deer in the pasture or birds at her feeder. Most recently, she was excited to finally see a bear for the first time. Anna enjoyed spending time doing puzzles and solving crossword and word search puzzles as well as baking, especially to keep the cookie tin filled for when her grandchildren stopped in to see her. The family would like to express their appreciation to Sherry Zehrung and Debbie Burden-Buczek for their compassionate caregiving as Anna’s health declined.
Services will be private, but friends are welcome to donate to a charity of their choice in memory of Anna.
